Dr. Oz Contest Winner Interview

Congratulations to Janice Arsenault for winning our Care About Your Care contest to see a taping of the Dr. Oz Show in NYC! Here are her thoughts on the contest and her trip.

MHMC:  How did you find out about the contest? 

J:  Well I’m the Health and Wellness director for the State of Maine Department of Transportation, so I’m always going on the employee health and benefits website looking up information for people. I was scrolling down to find something and saw the piece about Dr. Oz.  There were still a few days to enter, so I watched the video and took the quiz.  I can’t believe I won!

MHMC: Had you heard of the Maine Health Management Coalition or GetBetterMaine before this?

J:  Because of my job I’m on a bunch of outside committees like the Governor’s Council for Health and Fitness, and I work closely with other health and benefits people, so I have been familiar with the MHMC for a long time. They’re involved in a lot of the same discussions we’re having around cost and quality at the DOT.

MHMC: What did you think about the Care About Your Care broadcast?

J:  I thought the broadcast was great and that it brought up some really important issues.  I just went through a whole healthcare episode with my father, and I saw a lot of things go wrong in the hospital, so hearing that message about being your own advocate and making informed healthcare decisions really resonated. 

MHMC: How was the trip?  What did you do with your time in NYC?

J:  The trip was great! Our hotel was really nice and it was right in Times Square, so we got to do a lot of walking around, shopping and taking in the sites.  We also had a chance to meet up with some friends we hadn’t seen in a while, so all in all it was an awesome weekend!

MHMC:  How was the show?  Did they do anything special for you as a contest winner?

J:  It was a lot of fun seeing them tape the show.  We had seats right up front for winning the contest, so when they did a section on cooking healthy frozen meals we got to try some of the food.  It was really exciting seeing how the show gets made and being able to participate in one of the segments.

MHMC:  Did you know that we have another contest going on right now for book clubs that are reading The Healing of America?  It goes until the end of February and you could win an overnight stay for 10 people at Maine Huts and Trails’ Flagstaff Lodge.

J:  I didn’t, but that sounds great! I’ll definitely check it out on getbettermaine!
